Based on the famous Paris-Dakar Rallye six french students decided 1998 to participate in an adventure in the desert. Ambitiously as they were they were determined to bring school supplies to moroccan children. As challenging as it already is they chose the Renault R4 (4L in France) to drive with.
This year eight students from the Fachhochschule Südwestfalen in Soest decided to participate in this Rallye that grew bigger and bigger each year. In the last „Raid 4L Trophy 2011“ more than 2.500 students took part in this adventure . But not just the number of entrants grew but also the amount of school supplies. Every Team has to bring at least 50 kg of school supplies and 10 kg of food. In 2011 more than 80 tons of school supplies were carried together.
The goal of the Rallye is not to get first but Teamspirit, endurance, intercultural communication, humanitarian dedication and to drive as few kilometers as possible. The teams only have a compass, map and roadmap to navigate the R4s to Marrakesh.
In order for the eight participants to take part in this Rallye they have to plan, find sponsors and get the R4s ready to drive through the Sahara. But without sponsors we cannot implement this ambitious and time intensive project.
